Almost 200 medical technology (MedTech) student interns from the Institute of Clinical Laboratory Sciences (ICLS) were assigned to hospitals recently this month in Dumaguete City, Cebu City, and Tagbilaran City for the next six months.
Ace Dumaguete Doctors, Silliman University Medical Center, Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center, Chong Hua Hospital, and Governor Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital are among the hospitals that would be assigned to the MedTech interns.
Meanwhile, medical students at Silliman University (SU) will be continuing their face-to-face (F2F) internships for the second semester.
Dr. Lily Ann Bautista, Director of the Institute of Rehabilitative Sciences (IRS), said “Our protocols remain the same, however, since we are downgraded to [Alert] Level 2, the room capacity has been increased to 70%. But we still maintain our 50% capacity unless truly necessary. We have been given authority by Dauin IATF [Inter-Agency Task Force], signed by the [town] mayor, to start our community-based programs.”
Since September 2021, when the College of Nursing was granted Commission on Higher Education (CHED) clearance in May 2021, it has held F2F classes that adhere to mandatory health standards. Students have been exposed to hospital clinical settings since October 2021, when the department was granted permission by CHED.
Dr. Theresa Guino-o, Dean of College of Nursing shared in a written statement regarding plans of the department before the second semester starts, “SUCN will continue with the limited face-to-face and hospital clinical rotations in the second semester unless there will be restrictions to that effect.”
