40 Silliman University senior students are to receive a ₱5,000 grant from the Bayanihan 2 for Higher Education Tulong Program (B2HELP) implemented by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED)
These students were endorsed and chosen by the university following the first level and second level ranking provided by CHED’s implementing guidelines on the limited number of grantees.
The first level ranking bases itself on the remaining unpaid balance of the grantees while the second level ranking is based on the grantee’s year level, as said by SU’s Office of the Registrar and Admissions.
A total of 54,761 students from various private universities around the country received a monetary grant to alleviate financial needs of the students.
According to CHED Chairman J. Prospero E. De Vera III, the 300 million pesos program has been released to 927 private schools to “reduce the unpaid tuition and miscellaneous fees of their students so they can continue their studies,” and aimed to jumpstart the economy by providing financial assistance to all sectors of the nation.
To become eligible for the grant, the student must be a Filipino citizen, enrolled in a CHED-recognized course during the first semester of A.Y. 2020-2021, have incurred outstanding tuition and miscellaneous fee balance during school years 2019-2020 and 2020-2021, and must be a 3rd year, 4th year, or graduating student.
“We manifest our sincere appreciation of the government’s one-time financial assistance to students under the Bayanihan 2 Act. Even with the modest amount of assistance, this will surely go a long way in reaching out to many students who come from families who are financially affected by economic downturn at this time of the pandemic,” Coordinating Council of Private Educational Associations (COCOPEA) Chairperson Lourdes Almeda-Sese said on CHED’s official website.
