Career Diplomat Stacy Danika Alcantara and Palanca-awardee Ian Casocot are two of six Sillimanians who will speak in the first Negros Island Technology, Entertainment and Design (TED) talks this Feb. 3 at the Luce Auditorium.
TED is a global non-profit organization devoted to “spreading ideas, usually in a form of an 18-minute, powerful talk.”
TEDx is a program for all communities, organizations and individuals who want to organize their own TED-like event and replicate the same experience at the main TED conference. According to TED website, there hasvebeen more than 100,000 TEDx talks in 190 countries in over 2,500 cities since 2009.
Together with Alcantara and Cosocot in the “TEDxSillimanU” event are fellow Sillimanians: Atty. Regal Oliva, City Treasurer of Mandaue; Razcel Jan Salvarita founder of Gugma Gaia, an environmental organization; Oliver Victor Amoroso, television executive and; Michele Valbuena, sports psychologist.
TEDxSllimanU head organizer Royd Edcel Chan, sophomore Foreign Affairs student, wanted to organize his own TEDx program in Silliman University (SU) after seeing successful similar events in various universities in Cebu.
TEDxSillimanU described Dumaguete and Silliman University as places “where ideas are shared, challenged, and reinvented.”
“There are stories of brave souls who defied the norms, of dreamers who sought the world beyond their borders and the inner workings of everyday life, molded by the portals of Silliman,” it added.
Tickets are expected to be available last Jan. 17 at P200 each. Student can charge the tickets to their school account. Chan clarified that the event is nonprofit and the proceeds will be used for the venue, transportation and event-related expenses.
The theme for TEDxSillimanU is “Convergence, Divergence.”
