Standout player Villacampa erupted for 19 points to lead the College of Business Administration (CBA) Warriors to a 46-38 smashing of the College of Engineering and Design (CED) Raptors during the men’s basketball championship match on Feb. 2 at the Silliman Gymnasium.
Back-to-back layups and fast takeaways was the name of the game for Villacampa as he dunked a relentless 7-point opening half and notched 12 in the final frame.
Trailing his charge were CBA’s two-time MVP Denzel Cornelia with seven points, and Karl Dave and Adiong converting four baskets each, while CED’s Duran and Marino’s 14- and 8-point buckets nearly closing the lead.
The dominant showing from the Warriors nailed their third consecutive championship title against long-time rival Raptors, cementing their grand slam status during the season.
An already bleeding game from the CED took its final tumble during the third quarter as David Francisco sustained an eye injury after heavy collisions at the 6-minute mark, driving the CBA to an extended 35-27 lead.
Blocked at every turnover against the Warrior’s tight formations in the last quarter, the Raptors saw their attempts at a comeback go unrewarded with Marino’s late 3-pointer falling behind Dave’s deciding short jumper.
Setting a demanding pace early game with a commanding 12-point lead, the CBA cashed in on the CED’s off-the-mark baskets with Villacampa, Cornelia, and Adiong hammering 7 consecutive hoops for a 16-4 jumpstart.
A hole in the Warrior’s defenses finally opened up during the second quarter, 21-17, as Duran’s two successive triples and Francisco’s turnaround seven buckets trimmed their lead to a playable four-point gap.
Heading into the match, the CBA boasted a 4-0 slate against the College of Performing and Visual Arts – Institute of Environmental Sciences and College of Arts and Sciences.
“The game from last year is just experience, we still have the same hunger [and] the same drive we had last year,” Cornelia said, referring to their title bout against CED during the 2025 Intramurals.
The stakes are even higher for the Warriors as they enter next year’s Intramurals defending their title as three-time champions.
