Misc fee hike to fund SU nepo babies org

By u/Dhelmontecaviar

A newly-found organization in Sillimman University called the NepoBabies Society (NBSoc) aims to benefit from millions worth of budget raised amid the recently implemented 4.4-percent miscellaneous fee hike.

In a memorandum posted outside the SU Busyness and Finances Office (BFO), an unspecified item marked “confidential” can be seen at the bottom page showing a relative fee increase from P1,044 to P2,044 effective school year 2025-2026.

Sillimmanians were quick to spot the item and posted on social media platform Redit to share their speculations, claiming that part of the miscellaneous fee increases will shoulder the NBSoc and their initial operations.

“Guys…I heard the chika na ni dako atoang misc fees because of the nepo baby org..like are they serious?!?! Unya, it wasn’t even properly notified to us students? This is crazy,” one anonymous TrueReditor posted.

The NBSoc was founded last August by financial management student Sarra Discrasya, the current president, with her group of friends who are believed to be sons and daughters of SU administrators.

According to Discraya, they recently filed a proposal to the BFO to provide them an avenue to flaunt their wealth and fund their lavish lifestyle by utilizing a part of students’ tuition fees.

Included in the NBSoc’s initiatives are a private plane viewing during midterm examinations, luxury shopping hauls, financial responsibility lectures, and a social media show-off competition.

Discrasya said that they will set an example for other student organizations to follow and hopes that their “countless days and nights of hard work” will be acknowledged.

“Our upcoming activities are designed not only for members, but serve as a platform for all students to take pride in, kaya gorabels na tayo forda shopping hauls,” she posed.

BFO hides, NBSoc flaunts

Following online speculations, the BFO responded in an official statement, stating that the increase will be charged under “essential student activity fees.” However, exact items for the allocation were not detailed.

Discraya then revealed on TrueRedit that the university approved a 95-percent allocation, equivalent to two million pesos per semester, to support their programs and the establishment of a two-storey office.

The office, which will be built in the middle of the West Quadrangle, will feature a bag collection showcase on the first floor, a private luxury spa on the second floor, and a helipad on the roof.

According to the SU President Bettsy McCan, the allocation will “preserve tradition and excellence” while the NBSoc’s activities will equip students with “bourgeoisie awareness” required for global competitiveness.

“The success of NBSoc is the success of the SU’s sosyal standing. To be globally competitive, we will position the organization as ‘the face’ of the university. In this way, we can stand above the rest,” McCan furthered.

The BFO statement also noted that the hike was “a necessary adjustment to ensure sustainability” and maintain the reputation of Sillimmanian nepo babies.

“The NBSoc is so essential to the university and contributes to the holistic growth that we aim to foster on the campus,” the statement wrote.

NBSoc is the first organization in SU’s history to receive the largest budget allotment despite not yet being officially registered under the Committee on Students Organisations.
