The human mind is programmed in the likeness of a machine to adapt to the momentum of a bustling world to survive. We have transformed into fast-paced beings towards our studies, work, and it unknowingly merged when we love, but we cannot maintain that unnatural state for too long.
So what makes an encounter “organic”? In a report by GMA’s 24 Oras Weekend segment, an organic encounter is defined as “unscripted, unfiltered, and unforced.” Simply, it’s just real-life; no strategies, rehearsing of charming lines, and set-ups. We venture into the day with no expectation and intention of romantic love but experience it anyway.
A renewed fascination for traditional ways is quietly making its way back as an alternative in digital burnouts. From the yearning for organic encounters to the “slow living” trend, we are entering an era of craving genuinity over curating feeds and scrolling on algorithm-driven platforms.
When we want something, it is only instinct to reach for it immediately—and they say love is the most desirable thing.
Thus, restlessness prevails, we start romanticizing the idea of an organic encounter and say things such as “Where is my organic encounter? Why is it taking so long?”, but the truth is: we do not have control over something that is supposed to be natural. Demanding organic encounters contradicts its foundation of spontaneity.
Although organic encounters have its charm, it also contains risks because it is only meant to be a spark to the fire. The growth of the fire will depend if you choose to remain authentic because sparks do not last forever, but what you decide to do with it does.
Perhaps we can reflect on why the idea of organic encounters appeals to us so much. Is it because we desire to be chosen not out of superficial preference but because of destiny? That fate placed us in the right place and at the right time? Or is it only because it sounds good to say that you met someone through an “organic encounter”?
Nevertheless, organic encounters—the concept of “love” in general—is one of the aspects of life that tells us to “slow down” amid a chaotic world because it does not bloom with haste but patience.
