To further its commitment in advancing clinical excellence, Silliman University (SU) allied health units hosted the Best Practice Spotlight Organization (BPSO) 2025 Global Summit last Sept. 24.
The summit, hosted by the SU Medical Center (SUMC) in partnership with the SU College of Nursing Association (SUCNA), marked the Philippines’ entry into the BPSO global community.
According to SUCN dean Dr. Theorose June Bustillo, the event strengthens allied health fields by improving patient experience and health outcomes, lowering cost of care, and enrich staff satisfaction by developing evidence-based practice,
“The Philippines […] joining the BPSO Global Community recognizes the remarkable dedication of our nurses in the academe and practice,” Bustillo said.
Organizations that are members of the BPSO program are determined to implement evidence-based best practice guidelines (BPG) in fostering medical advancement.
The summit also showcased the achievements of Philippine BPSOs in the global science movement of healthcare.
Moreover, SU faculty and SUMC nurse champions presented their evidence-based BPG during the event at the Audio-Visual Theater.
SU faculty Asst Prof. May Ross Cafe and Dr. Freslyn Lim-Saco talked about assessing patient risks and selecting tools for vascular access, and promoting breastfeeding for young children, respectively.
Meanwhile, SUMC nurses Hazel Tabotabo and Marilou Zamora presented their research studies on breastfeeding knowledge and practice, while Dawn Cimafranca presented a survey titled, “Risk Assessment and Prevention of Pressure Ulcers in SUMC.”
SUCNA President Brianna Rikka Jabel shared that the event highlights the college’s growth as one of the pioneers for the three BPGs in the Philippines.
“This event is a testament to the continued growth of the profession, both in the academe and in practice. SUCN […] is honored to be pioneers and trailblazers in being champions for the above-mentioned BPGs,” Jabel said.
The summit was attended by registered nurses and nursing students from different academic and health institutions in Dumaguete and Negros Oriental.
The BPSO Global Summit 2025 is a hybrid series of webinars and seminars held simultaneously across the world such as in Australia, Chile, and China from Sept. 23 to 25.
