Silliman University (SU) Farm, in partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd), hosted a milk pack feeding program to three schools in Negros Oriental last January 14, 17 and 21.
SU has given 6,024 milk packs to Manjuyod Central School in Manjuyod, 2,932 pieces of milk packs to Tinaogan Elementary School in Bindoy, and 2,700 milk packs to Sagrada Elementary School in Manjuyod for the month of January.
According to program coordinator Rafael Nepomuceno, the target recipients of the milk packs are those nutritionally challenged students.
“We have a total of 8,746 nutritionally challenged students sa mga schools anang mga municipalities na akong na mention (assigned schools of Silliman). And then kaning mga beneficiaries nato na students, we need to provide 12 pieces of milk pack, so bali all in all, we need to provide 104,952 milk packs, para aning mga beneficiary tanan,” said Nepomuceno.
The milk distribution program is a DepEd funded project under the supervision of the National Dairy Authority.
Silliman University Farm is one of the milk suppliers in Negros Oriental along with Valencia Dairy Cooperative, Dumaguete Dairy Farmers Cooperative and Bayawan Dairy Farmers cooperative. Silliman University Farm is assigned to distribute to schools within the municipalities of Manjuyod, Bindoy, Tayasan, Jimalalud and La Libertad.
“Ang among schedule kay is every Thursday and Sunday, amo ra syang ginatiming sa module distribution every Monday and Retrieval every Friday,” the coordinator added .
SU Farm is set to distribute more milk packs to Bindoy this coming Jan. 31.
