For the first time, the Silliman University (SU) Intramurals included an inter-college banner-making competition held on Feb. 24 at the SU Gymnasium.

Nicole Marie Cordova, SU Student Government (SG) Sports and Recreation Committee Co-Chairperson, said that the inclusion of the event was to “spice up” the intramurals.

“This is one for everyone to join, not just for players, but also non-players as well,” she said.

The competition was assigned to the SUSG Special Projects Committee as it “focuses on creativity, identity expression, and environmental consciousness,” said Meliza Leva, the committee chairperson.

She explained, “The collaboration with the SUSG Sports and Recreation Committee ensures a comprehensive and engaging experience for participants, integrating both aspects of sports and creative expression within the university community.”

With over 11 departments competing, the College of Engineering and Design (CED) won first place, while the Institute of Clinical Laboratory Sciences, College of Business Administration, and College of Nursing placed second, third, and fourth, respectively.

The winners were announced during the Intramurals 2024 opening ceremony held on Feb. 25 at the Cimafranca Ballfield.

The banners aimed to include “symbols, colors, and motifs that represent the heritage, values, and achievements of their respective colleges.”

Fourth year architecture student Keziah Romagos from CED said that they incorporated the intramurals’ theme, “Embracing the future as God’s Gift through Sports Camaraderie,” in their department’s banner.

Meanwhile, second year civil engineering student Joshua Teves from CED added that they included the value of sports camaraderie along with symbols from within their college.

The points won during the said competition were added to the overall score for each college in the intramurals.
